At Lou Brown Design, we serve our valued and respected clientele through a system of satisfaction by design. We rely on experience, expertise, and impeccable integrity to complete projects with consistently pleasing results.

LBD provides the following services:

  1. Preparation of interior and exterior plans including floor plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, technical drawings and design/build project coordination.
  2. Selection of fabrics, furnishings, finishes, accessories, artwork and architectural treatments.
  3. Provision of subcontractors within the scope of the project.
  4. Inspections of residence during any installation to ensure work is done to a high standard.
  5. LBD cannot assume responsibility for the supervision of pets while working on site.
  1. Please note, our expertise also embraces corporate design such as offices, reception areas and boardrooms, and holiday properties throughout NZ.

1. Scale of fees

  • $190.00 + GST per hour for Lead Designer
  • $85.00 + GST per hour for Designer
  • $75.00 + GST per hour for Accounts & Administration

2. Hourly fees are calculated and invoiced by the 5th day of each month, with invoices payable within seven days.

3. Furniture, furnishings and trade services (unless otherwise stated below) are sold to clients at retail (recommended retail or recommended market value) less 50% of any discount (suggested wholesale). In other words, the discount is shared between LBD and Client.

Margins that are applied to certain trade services:

  • Window furnishings 10%
  • Upholstery and furniture restoration 10%
  • Wall finishes installation, painting, wallpaper installation 10%

4. LBD uses a list of trusted suppliers. Faults and defects happen from time to time, and they are out of our control. LBD will do our best to resolve any issues and any time spent doing so will be charged out at our hourly rate.

  1. Long-distance travel and accommodation expenses: determined as required.
  2. Photocopying, or any form of reproduction.
  3. Transportation costs such as courier, delivery and mileage.
  4. Duties, taxes and freight associated with the shipment of goods.
  5. Long-distance calls.
  6. Moving or cleaning interiors in preparation for work to take place on-site.

  1. All goods and services are ordered once 100% payment has been made by the Client. Ownership of the Goods may remain with the supplier until payment is made in full.
  2. Should you choose to return any item once it has been ordered, it is strictly at the supplier’s discretion and subject to their restocking fee. Custom orders are non-returnable.
  3. Where LBD engages contractors at the Client’s request, LBD is acting as the agent of the Client and is not liable for the performance or remuneration of those contractors.
  4. Invoices for hourly fees are produced every month and issued to the Client by email by the 5th day of each month. Design fees are due within seven days.
  5. In the event, there is a question about design fees, we ask clients to make inquiries within five business days of receipt of invoice. LBD is available to review design fees and satisfy a client’s inquiry.
  6. Should a second month’s design fees be issued while the previous month’s invoice is still outstanding, LBD will halt work until both invoices are paid in full.
  7. In the event this agreement is terminated before completion of the project, a final invoice will be produced for any outstanding design fees. All outstanding invoices must be paid in full prior to contract closure.
  8. In the event a discrepancy cannot be resolved, the parties agree to attend arbitration to facilitate a solution.

  1. Budget to be determined during the assessment of delivery lead-times & installation calendar. The budget does not include design fees.

Project Term:

  1. Project to commence upon receipt of contract.
  2. Project completion is determined based on the scope of works and estimated lead times.


We ask clients to authorize LBD to photograph and/or film their project after project completion. The Client’s address and identity are protected in strict confidence.
