HOW TO SELECT THE RIGHT RUG FOR YOUR HOME INTERIOR
Materiality matters

Rugs are more than just floor coverings; they are a vital component of interior design that can define the ambience and style of your living spaces. In this blog, we’ll delve into the world of rugs and explore the importance of selecting the right materials. Materiality matters when it comes to rugs, here are my favourite rug materials that will make a significant difference in your home’s interior.
LUXE AND SHEEN

If you’re aiming for a luxurious, sheen-filled look in your home, then consider rugs with a high-quality nylon content. Alternatively, viscose and silk can achieve a similar luxe appearance, but they come with a maintenance challenge. High quality nylon rugs, on the other hand, are a practical choice, requiring only regular vacuuming and occasional spot cleaning to maintain their beauty. Their resilience makes them ideal for high-traffic areas like living rooms, hallways, and entryways.
HONEST WITH WOOL

Wool, on the other hand, is a fantastic choice if you prefer an honest, earthy vibe in your living spaces. Wool rugs are known for their durability, excellent fade resistance, and relative ease of maintenance, especially when treated with products like Microseal. Wool’s unique structure allows colour to penetrate deeply into the fiber, creating a molecular-level bond that ensures long-lasting vibrancy. Wool’s high protein content naturally absorbs dyes, resulting in unmatched depth of shade and colour clarity. Wool is also thick and has coarse fibres, making the rugs hard-wearing and durable. Its natural fat coating repels dirt, allowing your rug to withstand the test of time. Moreover, wool doesn’t burn like other fibers, making it suitable for areas with special fire requirements, without the need for flame retardants. Additionally, wool rugs pose a low risk of triggering allergies, as they trap dust and dirt particles effectively.
THE PERFECT BLEND – WOOL AND NYLON

I absolutely adore mixing the easygoing feel of wool with the lavish gleam of silk, nylon, or viscose. It’s all about that comfortable, everyday luxury, and here are some of my absolute favourites.

RUG EDGING
When you have a project that needs a large rug, or a custom-sized rug, I love edging them with fabric. Especially when you’re aiming for a rug with a lodge-style elegance. I specify a 50 to 70mm linen, fabric or leather border. We use Artisan Flooring – simply choose a broadloom carpet, specify your desired size, and they will expertly edge it for you. Here’s a pic of a custom sisal runner we’ve recently done with a 50mm black leather edge.
